US-based Ghanaian Yaa Frimpomaa has stated that a person’s success abroad depends heavily on the advice their hosts give them as they settle into the new country.
In a chat in Daily Hustle Worldwide, Yaa indicated that many people resort to menial jobs because that is what their hosts do. They are not encouraged to get an education for better jobs.
“My husband always says the person you come to stay with is where your success is determined. If you don’t get a good person, whether family or friend, you may lag. Some people will not show you the shortcut because it took them a while to make it.”
Yaa mentioned that her husband advised her to study nursing despite her web designing background. According to Yaa, she chose nursing because it pays well.
“Nursing pays well, but it is tedious work. Nursing in Ghana is different from here. The health field needs many people to work, so it is easy to get a job after school,” he told DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa.
Miss Frimpomaa added that she had to put her web designing knowledge aside because it is difficult to get a job if you did not get your education in the US.
“I have the skill, but they won’t accept the grade from Ghana unless they evaluate it to their standard. Also, the web designing field doesn’t give you the same conditions as nursing would.
