Libya-based Ghanaian Aliu Issah has stated that presently Libya is a better country to work in than Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana with a president.
In a chat on SVTV Africa, Issah indicated that he makes more money in Libya than he ever did in Ghana as a taxi driver. According to Isaac, he is building a house for himself after four years of working in Libya. He believes he could not have achieved this if he was still in Ghana.
“I heard the history of Africans traveling to Libya years ago after they stopped traveling to Gabon. That was Gadaffi’s era, but Libya now is better than Ghana having a president.
I make money every day and get to send money to my family back home,” he said.
“You can make money in Ghana too, but the expenses are too much. The Libyan currency is worth more in Ghana.”
Aliu further mentioned that he had no intention of going to Europe from Libya. He added that it is too risky.
“I am scared, but I wanted to work here for a while and go back home. If you don’t dare to stow away, you may die. Many people die, but others also come every day.”
“We work as construction workers. Most Africans here work as masons.”
Speaking on the cost of living in Libya, Aliu mentioned that it is relatively cheaper. Also, men are not allowed to share or rent a room as roommates.
