Japan-based Ghanaian Mr. Ampadu has disclosed that his wife’s father did not accept their relationship in the initial stages and asked her ‘wo dwene?’ literally translated as “do you think?”
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Mr. Ampadu stated that blacks in Japan are often misrepresented, and the indigenes have a pessimistic reaction to Africans. He mentioned that some African men only choose to marry Japanese women to become permanent residents and divorce them later.
“It is not all African men who marry for residence, but that is why they disapprove of interracial marriage. My father-in-law was not welcoming in the beginning. Before we got married, she introduced me to her family, and he asked, ‘do you think?’ in my presence.”
“My wife said she is the one getting married and not her father. I loved that response. Eventually, they accepted me, and they treat me very well now,” he said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
Speaking on lifestyle in Japan, Mr. Ampadu indicated that they are a very religious country. It is a predominantly Shinto/Buddhism society with a less than one percent Christian society.
According to him, the Japanese are similar to Ghanaians regarding hospitality.
“They will even help you at their expense. The Japanese are nice people, but they talk behind your back even if it is an important issue that they need to share. Not necessarily gossiping, but they may say yes and mean no.”
