US-based Ghanaian KG of the defunct group KGPM has disclosed that sound engineer Hammer of The Last 2 sacked a rapper from his studio after listening to KG’s freestyle.
In a chat on SVTV Africa, KG indicated that Hammer was about to sign the rapper, but he never called him back after he discovered them. KG also told the story of how he met the producer.
“I met Hammer at the National Theatre, and I told him that I needed beats. He told me that he does not give his beat out, but if I’m a good rapper, he will even record me.
He was about to give the rapper a record deal, but he told the guy to get out of the booth. Hammer informed him that he’d call him, and he never did,” he told DJ Nyaami.
Moreover, KG stated that Hammer encouraged them to rap in twi. According to Hammer, their music had too many hip-hop elements. KG added that Hammer also changed their group name.
“Our name was ‘2deep,’ but Hammer has a partner named Deep, and they were ’the last 2.’ So we changed it to KGPM.
KGPM was popular in the early 2000s for songs like ‘enti saa na wotie,’ ‘mmri bi beba’, and others. He also revealed that his parents were not supportive of his music career and flew him to America soon after their hit song.
