Ghanaian based in Dubai, Frank Essel has disclosed that he told the airport immigration officers that his last resort was armed robbery if they did not allow him to catch his flight to Dubai.
In a chat on SVTV Africa, Frank indicated that he had paid GH₵5000 to an agent for travel documents to Dubai. However, the immigration officers asked for a certificate of the food he was carrying.
He suspects that the officers wanted ‘something’ despite possessing genuine traveling documents. According to him, they had nothing to charge him for, hence the demand for food certification.
“Because everything was genuine, they (wanted another way to collect) money. So they told me to provide a certificate for the food I had bought to eat. I told the officers that the best person to give that would be the seller, and they said they would delay me.
Then I told them that I had to empty my account for this trip. So if they delay, I will pick up a gun and become an armed robber. The other officer saw the weight of my words and decided to let me go,” he explained.
Frank added that he gave them ₵50 before getting on the plane. He also shared his experience working as a security guard in Dubai, salary, living conditions, etc.
