Ghanaian woman based in the United Arab Emirates, Maa Lizzy, indicated on SVTV Africa that she has regretted leaving behind a successful salon business to work in Dubai.
In an exclusive on ‘Daily Hustle Worldwide,’ Madam Lizzy disclosed that she got direct employment to Dubai through a friend. However, she came back after eight months of working.
“They told me that salary will be 1,200 Dirhams, so I thought it was good. But I spent all my money on airtime to call my three children. Airtime is expensive here. I could spend 200 dirhams (GHS408) monthly because I always wanted to hear from my children. So I left without completing my two-year work contract,” she explained.
Maa Lizzy disclosed that she had a shop with a couple of workers, but she was not serious with the business.
“Because it was mine, I wasn’t serious with it. You would call for an appointment at 8 am, and I’ll get there at 11 am. So the little I make goes back into the business. But I’ve learned a lot ever since I came here,” she added.
Madam Lizzy added that many Africans are frustrated in Dubai with no work. Those with jobs cannot afford to pay GHS4500 as monthly rent. They, however, rent beds for about GHS1000.
