Francis Frimpong is the CEO of online food service; HomeChoo. He shares his career journey from an IT expert into the food industry.
After his secondary school education, he continued to IPMC. Soon after, he enrolled at GIMPA to study IT. Presently, Francis is a certified Cisco network associate (CCNA). However, he changed his career when he saw an opportunity.
Francis mentioned that the business began as a delivery service using his knowledge in IT to set up a platform for that purpose. His mom operated a food joint. As a result, he decided to distribute his mom’s food depending on daily orders.
“What I did was deliver my mom’s food. She often reduced the cost for me then added that to the delivery cost. That’s how I made my money. If I make 5 cedis a pack plus 10 cedis of delivery for 20 packs of food, that is 300 cedis. Then I realized it was good business because food is a reorder business. If you buy today, you will buy tomorrow because you have to eat,” he said.
Speaking on how he came by the company name; HomeChoo, Francis revealed that he took “I did not have an idea for a name because that is not my field. I decided to pick the term homecho from secondary school.”
The former Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) worker also added that owning a business is far better than a salaried worker.
“It is better than before because I don’t have to wait till the end of the month to buy something. Also, you see money every day. But some corporate jobs also pay well. If you earn 5,000 cedis or so monthly, then you are good to go,” he added.
HomeChoo is located at Trinity Avenue, East Legon. He takes orders for events aside from food delivery.
