CEO of UK based company AZIL Logistics, Zaidan Suleman has stated that most Ghanaians abroad prefer to work in a company than for themselves, unlike Asians who live overseas.
Speaking with DJ Nyaami on Daily Hustle in the UK, Zaidan indicated that some Ghanaians are fearful about starting their own business when they travel and would rather settle on menial jobs like cleaning.
“You will never find an Asian or Pakistani working at a construction site. We have taken up such jobs; cleaning, security etc. I’m not saying it’s bad but Asians believe in self-employment unlike Ghanaians,” he said on SVTV Africa.
Zaidan believes the cause of this is fear. According to him, Ghanaians in the UK especially have limited themselves to being employees.
Moreover, he urged the youth who dream of travelling outside Ghana to possess some skills if they want to succeed. He added that jobs that are technically based like plumbing pay more than medicine.
“If you come and study a plumbing or electrical course, you’re good to go. I know an electrician who makes about 4,000 pounds a week and doctors don’t even make that much. Plumbers also make a lot of money. There is a lot of money in the technical trade in this country,” Zaidan revealed.
AZIL Logistics is a construction/ engineering company that works mostly on railroads as well as the renovation of houses.
