On May 19 2020, SVTV Africa aired a story of a pathetic of HIV patient and her 8 children who is living in a kiosk with seven of her children at Tema Newtown.
Yaa Dompreh (not her real name) contracted the HIV from her partner after he returned from a trip. Unfortunately for her, one of her children has also contracted the virus.
The mother of eight lives mainly on hand-outs and the generosity of her sister and some kind-hearted people.
Yaa stated that, the huge task of providing for herself and her children, the weight of the burden is really having a toll on her.
However, Yaa Dompreh’s story has changed barely three days after airing her plight. Her story caught the attention of many including the founder and CEO of Goldridge Ghana Limited, Dr. Sledge Duodu and Cold Store giant, La Bianca Company limited.
Through the benevolence of Dr. Sledge and his team, a relief items such as bags of rice, cooking oil, sardines, and indomie worth thousands of Ghana Cedis has been donated to the mother of eight to cater for them during this difficult period of Covid-19.
In addition, La Bianca Company has also donated an undisclosed amount of money to Yaa Dompreh for their up keep.
Yaa, who couldn’t hold back her joy, was thankful to the donors and SVTV Africa for the support.
“I never expected this, I’m very grateful to all donors and everybody who helped in making this possible. God bless them all and elongate their years on earth. Yaa said.
Though, confronted with the pains of single parenthood, Yaa’s desire to get herself out of the poor lifestyle seems to be very obvious, as she told DJ Nyaami that she would like to quit relying on people and start a provision store to cater for the family.
