Kevin-Prince Boateng has suggested for the first time that he could be open to a Ghana return six years after he last played for the Black Stars.
The Germany-born former international, who openly admitted he had chosen Ghana with his ‘head’, has often suggested he was done with the Black Stars after his spectacular fallout with then boss Kwesi Appiah at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But in a conversation with his brother, Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng on Instagram Live, the former Ghana star said he was open to the idea of playing at international level again because “I still feel close to them”.
“My relationship with Ghana is still intact. I still feel close to them,” the former Tottenham, AC Milan and Barcelona player said.
KP Boateng, who earned his move to AC Milan off the back of his display for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, also admitted Ghana helped him significantly.
“With the national team, I didn’t like the way it ended because they gave me so much.
“But you never know, maybe I can go back and play one more time again.”
Boateng made his Ghana debut in the build-up to the 2010 World Cup against Latvia in London and went on to play a key part in the Black Stars run-up to the quarter-final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He quit the national team later in November, 2011 before returning as the country inched closer to another world cup qualification in 2014, leading to accusations that he was only interested in representing the country on the big stage.
New Ghana boss C.K Akonnor only recently claimed he didn’t think KP Boateng didn’t seem interested in playing for the Black Stars.
“We spoke,” Akonnor said at his inaugural press conference.
“I didn’t think he wants to come. I don’t think so. I don’t think he wants to play and so that is it,” the Black Stars boss added when asked about Boateng.
Currently on the books of Besiktas, Boateng played 15 times for Ghana spread mostly over two World Cups and scored twice including in the Round of 16 in the 2010 World Cup game against the USA.
